Book Review: Everything Everything.

This book had been in my reading list ever since Zoella raved about it in her WH Smith bookclub video in 2016. Sadly it wasn’t available in Pakistan back then. A year later I saw it at liberty books and immediately grabbed it. My sister and I were very excited to read it. Let me just say we didn’t feel the same sentiment after we were done. Here is my spoiler-free book review.

The story is about a seventeen year old girl Maddy Whitier who suffers from a rare disease called SCID. This illness prevents her from leaving her house. Her mother, who is a doctor and her nanny are the only people she’s ever met. She attends school through Skype. One on one classes with her teacher is the only interaction she has with the outside world. This girl maddy has never left her house since she was a little toddler.

She is quite happy with her life. This isolated, confinement isn’t suffocating for her as she has never seen the colours of the outside world. This isolation gives her plenty of time to practice her hobbies and spend time with her mom who is her best friend. She reads her favourite books and in her spare time watches the goings on of her neighbourhood.

Her perfect life turns a little not so perfect when a new family moves into the house next to her. A boy her age happens to be living in the room opposite her room window. She is fascinated by his quirky mannerisms. He is the most fun person Maddy has ever seen. Now she wants to meet him, talk to him, spend time with him. But there is only one problem. She’s not aloud to go outside. This is the first time she wants to leave her house.

The story unfolds as Maddy tries to convince her mom to allow her to befriend Oliver and once she fails the both of them find out other ways to be able to converse with each other. Maddy feels she has to meet him or else she will die.

I think the storyline is amazing. The way Maddy discovers the secrets her life holds and how she handles them is brilliant but I think it is written in a very amateur way. It could have been better.

I’ve also seen the film adaptation of this novel. It pains me to say that the movie is loads better than the book. Normally it’s the other way round. The way the story unfolds in the movie is ten times better. They’ve kept it very close to the novel and it turned out better. Nevertheless I would say If you’re looking for a light quick read then go for it. You’ll have fun but there’s nothing wow about it. At least I didn’t think so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you read this book? What are your views? Did you love it did you hate it? Let me know in the comments I would to read what everybody thinks.
